Genesis 1:26-27
26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our
likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and
over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the
earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the
earth."27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he
created him; male and female he created them.
Genesis 6:1-22
1 When men began to multiply on the face of the ground, and
daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the
daughters of men were fair; and they took to wife such of them as
they chose. 3 Then the LORD said, "My spirit shall not abide in
man for ever, for he is flesh, but his days shall be a hundred and
twenty years." 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days,
and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of
men, and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men that
were of old, the men of renown. 5 The LORD saw that the wickedness
of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the
thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the LORD was
sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his
heart. 7 So the LORD said, "I will blot out man whom I have
created from the face of the ground, man and beast and creeping
things and birds of the air, for I am sorry that I have made
them." 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD. 9 These
are the generations of Noah. Noah was a righteous man, blameless in
his generation; Noah walked with God. 10 And Noah had three sons,
Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 Now the earth was corrupt in God's sight,
and the earth was filled with violence. 12 And God saw the earth,
and behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way
upon the earth. 13 And God said to Noah, "I have determined to
make an end of all flesh; for the earth is filled with violence
through them; behold, I will destroy them with the earth. 14 Make
yourself an ark of gopher wood; make rooms in the ark, and cover it
inside and out with pitch. 15 This is how you are to make it: the
length of the ark three hundred cubits, its breadth fifty cubits,
and its height thirty cubits. 16 Make a roof for the ark, and finish
it to a cubit above; and set the door of the ark in its side; make
it with lower, second, and third decks. 17 For behold, I will bring
a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh in which is
the breath of life from under heaven; everything that is on the
earth shall die. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you; and
you shall come into the ark, you, your sons, your wife, and your
sons' wives with you. 19 And of every living thing of all flesh, you
shall bring two of every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with
you; they shall be male and female. 20 Of the birds according to
their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every
creeping thing of the ground according to its kind, two of every
sort shall come in to you, to keep them alive. 21 Also take with you
every sort of food that is eaten, and store it up; and it shall
serve as food for you and for them." 22 Noah did this; he did
all that God commanded him.
Genesis 7:1-24
1 Then the LORD said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and all
your household, for I have seen that you are righteous before me in
this generation. 2 Take with you seven pairs of all clean animals,
the male and his mate; and a pair of the animals that are not clean,
the male and his mate; 3 and seven pairs of the birds of the air
also, male and female, to keep their kind alive upon the face of all
the earth. 4 For in seven days I will send rain upon the earth forty
days and forty nights; and every living thing that I have made I
will blot out from the face of the ground." 5 And Noah did all
that the LORD had commanded him. 6 Noah was six hundred years old
when the flood of waters came upon the earth. 7 And Noah and his
sons and his wife and his sons' wives with him went into the ark, to
escape the waters of the flood. 8 Of clean animals, and of animals
that are not clean, and of birds, and of everything that creeps on
the ground, 9 two and two, male and female, went into the ark with
Noah, as God had commanded Noah. 10 And after seven days the waters
of the flood came upon the earth. 11 In the six hundredth year of
Noah's life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the
month, on that day all the fountains of the great deep burst forth,
and the windows of the heavens were opened. 12 And rain fell upon
the earth forty days and forty nights. 13 On the very same day Noah
and his sons, Shem and Ham and Japheth, and Noah's wife and the
three wives of his sons with them entered the ark, 14 they and every
beast according to its kind, and all the cattle according to their
kinds, and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth according
to its kind, and every bird according to its kind, every bird of
every sort. 15 They went into the ark with Noah, two and two of all
flesh in which there was the breath of life. 16 And they that
entered, male and female of all flesh, went in as God had commanded
him; and the LORD shut him in. 17 The flood continued forty days
upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and
it rose high above the earth. 18 The waters prevailed and increased
greatly upon the earth; and the ark floated on the face of the
waters. 19 And the waters prevailed so mightily upon the earth that
all the high mountains under the whole heaven were covered; 20 the
waters prevailed above the mountains, covering them fifteen cubits
deep. 21 And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, birds,
cattle, beasts, all swarming creatures that swarm upon the earth,
and every man; 22 everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was
the breath of life died. 23 He blotted out every living thing that
was upon the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things
and birds of the air; they were blotted out from the earth. Only
Noah was left, and those that were with him in the ark. 24 And the
waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.
Genesis 9:6-7
6 Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed;
for God made man in his own image. 7 And you, be fruitful and
multiply, bring forth abundantly on the earth and multiply in
it."
Genesis 9:28-29
28 After the flood Noah lived three hundred and fifty years. 29
All the days of Noah were nine hundred and fifty years; and he died.
Genesis 18:1-8
1 And the LORD appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at
the door of his tent in the heat of the day.2 He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men stood in
front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet
them, and bowed himself to the earth,3 and said, "My lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do
not pass by your servant.4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest
yourselves under the tree,5 while I fetch a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves,
and after that you may pass on--since you have come to your
servant." So they said, "Do as you have said."6 And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, "Make
ready quickly three measures of fine meal, knead it, and make
cakes."7 And Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and
gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. 8 Then he took
curds, and milk, and the calf which he had prepared, and set it
before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate.
Genesis 19/1-30
1 The two angels came to Sodom in the evening; and Lot was
sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet
them, and bowed himself with his face to the earth, 2 and said,
"My lords, turn aside, I pray you, to your servant's house and
spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise up early and
go on your way." They said, "No; we will spend the night
in the street." 3 But he urged them strongly; so they turned
aside to him and entered his house; and he made them a feast, and
baked unleavened bread, and they ate. 4 But before they lay down,
the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the
people to the last man, surrounded the house; 5 and they called to
Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out
to us, that we may know them." 6 Lot went out of the door to
the men, shut the door after him, 7 and said, "I beg you, my
brothers, do not act so wickedly. 8 Behold, I have two daughters who
have not known man; let me bring them out to you, and do to them as
you please; only do nothing to these men, for they have come under
the shelter of my roof." 9 But they said, "Stand
back!" And they said, "This fellow came to sojourn, and he
would play the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with
them." Then they pressed hard against the man Lot, and drew
near to break the door. 10 But the men put forth their hands and
brought Lot into the house to them, and shut the door. 11 And they
struck with blindness the men who were at the door of the house,
both small and great, so that they wearied themselves groping for
the door. 12 Then the men said to Lot, "Have you any one else
here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or any one you have in the city,
bring them out of the place; 13 for we are about to destroy this
place, because the outcry against its people has become great before
the LORD, and the LORD has sent us to destroy it." 14 So Lot
went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his
daughters, "Up, get out of this place; for the LORD is about to
destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be
jesting. 15 When morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying,
"Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here,
lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city." 16 But he
lingered; so the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters
by the hand, the LORD being merciful to him, and they brought him
forth and set him outside the city. 17 And when they had brought
them forth, they said, "Flee for your life; do not look back or
stop anywhere in the valley; flee to the hills, lest you be
consumed." 18 And Lot said to them, "Oh, no, my lords; 19
behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have
shown me great kindness in saving my life; but I cannot flee to the
hills, lest the disaster overtake me, and I die. 20 Behold, yonder
city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me
escape there--is it not a little one? --and my life will be
saved!" 21 He said to him, "Behold, I grant you this favor
also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken.
22 Make haste, escape there; for I can do nothing till you arrive
there." Therefore the name of the city was called Zo'ar. 23 The
sun had risen on the earth when Lot came to Zo'ar. 24 Then the LORD
rained on Sodom and Gomor'rah brimstone and fire from the LORD out
of heaven; 25 and he overthrew those cities, and all the valley, and
all the inhabitants of the cities, and what grew on the ground. 26
But Lot's wife behind him looked back, and she became a pillar of
salt. 27 And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he
had stood before the LORD; 28 and he looked down toward Sodom and
Gomor'rah and toward all the land of the valley, and beheld, and lo,
the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a furnace. 29 So it
was that, when God destroyed the cities of the valley, God
remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow,
when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt.
Genesis 32/24-31
24 And Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until
the breaking of the day. 25 When the man saw that he did not prevail
against Jacob, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and Jacob's thigh
was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. 26 Then he said,
"Let me go, for the day is breaking." But Jacob said,
"I will not let you go, unless you bless me." 27 And he
said to him, "What is your name?" And he said,
"Jacob." 28 Then he said, "Your name shall no more be
called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with
men, and have prevailed." 29 Then Jacob asked him, "Tell
me, I pray, your name." But he said, "Why is it that you
ask my name?" And there he blessed him. 30 So Jacob called the
name of the place Peni'el, saying, "For I have seen God face to
face, and yet my life is preserved." 31 The sun rose upon him
as he passed Penu'el, limping because of his thigh.
